Description
What kind of wine it is
Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore by Clementi is a still red wine with Denomination of Controlled Origin from Veneto, distinguished by its expressive precision and balanced palate. Born from a harmonious blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara, it presents in the glass with an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it expresses clear hints of red fruit well integrated with delicate notes of sweet spices. The taste is soft and fresh, outlining a structured profile that closes with a compact, persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This oenological expression comes to life in Marano di Valpolicella, in the heart of the historic area of Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore. Its belonging to this specific territory gives the wine a clear identity, enhanced by a biological and sustainable approach in the vineyard. The agronomic care taken by Clementi allows the harvest of grapes capable of transferring the Veneto’s winegrowing vocation and the natural aromatic complexity typical of the area of origin into the glass.
How it is produced
The entire production process is based on the application of the Ripasso Method, essential for imparting intensity and character. The must undergoes fermentation for about ten days, supported by two daily pump-overs and a délestage halfway through to optimise extraction. Subsequently, the wine undergoes four rackings without any filtration. Ageing initially takes place in oak barrels and, from the following summer, continues in second-passage barriques, a fundamental phase for smoothing the tannins and defining the wine’s enveloping softness.
History and Curiosities
Produced in Marano di Valpolicella, this elegant Venetian red embodies the artisanal dedication of the Clementi family. The Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC is created following the traditional ripasso method. Thanks to meticulous craftsmanship that does not involve filtration, the wine matures in oak barrels and barriques, preserving its identity intact. Awarded 89 points by James Suckling, the 2020 vintage is the result of the passion of a family that has been producing wine in Valpolicella for generations under organic and sustainable practices.

Since 1640, some districts and some localities have been found, referred to in ancient documents, as follows such as the Pozze, Perlè, Laghi, Perlar, Masua, Le Quare, Paverno, Case soto al bosco, and of course Gnirega.
The manor house, located at 300 mt. altitude (it is mentioned in 1652 - owner was Bernardino Gherardini), was then built in the early 1600s and then expanded into its current form - twenty rooms, a large barn and a cellar - presumably in the mid-nineteenth century, as evidenced by the contours of tuff doors and windows, and some nineteenth-century frescoes inside the house.
The house in Gnirega is always open to children, relatives, guests and friends who find a warm welcome and "bread, salami and wine".
In the small basement cellar at the back of the house has always produced wine in small quantities, but in large barrels of carved wood. And it is in this cellar that Pietro Clementi, lawyer, practiced to produce wine from 1970 to 2004. Read more
