Description

What kind of wine it is

The Brunello di Montalcino from Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona is a Tuscan red wine, vinified in steel and cement and aged in oak barrels, presenting a ruby red colour tending towards garnet. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe red berries and enveloping spicy notes. On the palate, it reveals a solid structure: it is a warm and harmonious red, supported by pronounced tannins and crowned by a long persistence that enhances its profound character.

Where it comes from

This Brunello di Montalcino originates from the renowned Sienese territory. The grapes come exclusively from the Pianrosso vineyards, located between 240 and 360 metres above sea level. The medium-textured soils, rich in galestro of Eocene origin, favour ideal ripening, giving the wine a rigorous and elegant profile that faithfully represents the identity of the terroir.

How it is produced

Vinification takes place in stainless steel and cement tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures in Slavonian oak barrels for about three years, acquiring stability and structural complexity. The evolution concludes with a bottle ageing of over eight months, a phase that harmonises the tannic texture, resulting in a wine that is full-bodied, decisive and consistent.

History and Curiosities

Produced only in the best vintages and exclusively with grapes from the Pianrosso vineyards, Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso has always authoritatively represented the terroir and the name of the Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona estate. It is interesting to note that it is from these very vineyards that the grapes destined for the prestigious Riserva type are also selected.

Upon the bishop's death, Palazzo del Vescovo was put up for auction together with the vast agricultural properties following the Italian law on Ecclesiastical Assets and purchased on 16 September 1868 by Countess Eva Bernini Cerretani. On 31 December 1877, Countess Cerretani sold the entire estate to the Ciacci family based in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Siena. Following the marriage in the first half of the 20th century between Count Alberto Piccolomini d'Aragona, a descendant of Enea Silvio Piccolomini known as Pope Pius II, and Miss Elda Ciacci, Palazzo del Vescovo became Palazzo Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona.

In 1985, with the extinction of the family line, Giuseppe Bianchini took over the property. Giuseppe Bianchini, who had already worked in the estate for many years, applied a new and avant-garde production philosophy for those years, developing and increasing production, wine quality and opening up the export of our products to the world. Unfortunately, Giuseppe passed away in February 2004, leaving the task of continuing his work to his children Paolo and Lucia.
