Description
What kind of wine it is
Tuvaoes Vermentino di Sardegna by Cherchi is a still white wine that clearly expresses the character of the Vermentino grape grown in the Usini area, in the province of Sassari. In the glass, it presents a dry, fresh and linear style, characterised by a slender yet well-defined body and a pronounced acidity. The aromatic profile opens with fragrant notes of white flowers, aromatic herbs and tomato leaf, enriched by delicate hints of yellow-fleshed fruit and lemon zest. On the palate, it is lively and savoury, finishing with a persistent floral note and a pleasantly bitter aftertaste.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the Tuvaoes vineyards, located in north-west Sardinia along the hills of Logudoro. The vines benefit from an eastern exposure and grow at around two hundred metres above sea level, on calcareous and clay soils. This terroir, caressed by sea breezes and mistral winds, ensures marked temperature variations that give the wine a distinct minerality. In this context, Cherchi has been cultivating its vines since the 1970s, working closely with the land to enhance the value of local grape varieties.
How it is produced
In the vineyards, trained on a vertical trellis system and pruned using the Guyot method, the health of the plants is promoted without resorting to invasive chemical treatments. During the second half of September, the bunches are harvested through careful manual selection, working with low yields. Destemming and gentle pressing precede fermentation at a controlled temperature to preserve the primary aromas of the grapes. The entire production process takes place in a unique cellar carved into the rock, located right next to the rows of vines. This environment, with an underground section, ensures ideal thermal conditions for ageing, resulting in a glass with a smooth and well-defined profile.
History and Curiosities
Since the 1970s, the Cherchi family has embodied the authentic spirit of the Logudoro hills through its Tuvaoes Vermentino di Sardegna DOC. This elegant white wine is produced in Usini, in an evocative cellar carved into the rock, from grapes ripened in the sun and caressed by the sea breeze. Carefully tended from the vineyard to the bottle, it offers a lively and savoury sip, enriched by an intense and persistent floral finish. Awarded the prestigious Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, it represents the undisputed excellence of Sardinian winemaking tradition.
