Description
What kind of wine it is
The Côte-de-Brouilly “Les Griottes de Brulhié” from Château Thivin is an organic red wine from the Beaujolais region. This blend combines Gamay and Chardonnay grapes, offering a clear and precise aromatic profile. The body, ranging from medium to full, is supported by bright acidity and refined tannins. The bouquet releases aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and peony, leading to a savoury and vibrant sip. The mineral drive defines a fresh finish enriched with delicate spicy nuances, making this glass ideal for pairing with cured meats and light dishes.
Where it comes from
The original plot is located along a steep slope facing south and south-east, ensuring optimal ripening of the fruit. The vines sink their roots into shallow soils resting on blue metadiorite stones, a magmatic rock that imparts decisive energy to the palate. Agricultural management constantly protects the local ecosystem through sustainable practices. The manual harvest allows the best bunches to be selected directly in the vineyard, preserving the integrity of the raw material to create an elegant organic red wine.
How it is produced
The processing takes place in cellars designed to transfer the must by gravity flow, eliminating the use of mechanical pumps and protecting the delicacy of the grapes. The technique of partial whole cluster vinification preserves maximum freshness and the definition of varietal aromas. At the end of fermentation and pressing, the wine matures in oak barrels for a period of seven to nine months. This ageing softens the overall structure without ever compromising its natural and juicy liveliness.
History and Curiosities
This Côte-de-Brouilly from Château Thivin is born from the passion of the Geoffray family, winemakers since 1877. The Gamay grapes, grown on volcanic soils characterised by blue metadiorite stones, are harvested by hand. The vinification, with partially whole bunches, utilises gravity and is completed with 7-9 months of ageing in oak barrels. The result is a wine with a juicy and mineral palate, awarded 95 points by James Suckling. With its elegant aromas of cherry and peony, it enhances charcuterie and light dishes, offering a harmonious liveliness.

On 8th June 1877, Zaccharie and Marguerite Geoffray acquired Château Thivin and the two hectares of vineyards surrounding the estate (Le Clos).
Each subsequent generation would contribute new plots of land to the estate and develop the cultivation and winemaking methods. Today, the fifth and sixth generations of the Geoffray family run this small family business, work the estate's vineyards and vinify each wine, respecting the terroir of origin as the seasons change.
Today, Claude Vincent is happy and proud to take his three grandchildren, Tobias, Nicolas and Florina, into the vineyards and cellar to initiate them into the secrets of the trade and give them a taste of working the land. Read more
