Description
What kind of wine it is
The Chateau Soutard Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a still red wine that reflects the prestige of the Bordeaux region. It is created from a meticulous blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, ensuring a full-bodied structure and a harmonious flavour profile. In the glass, it displays a dark colour with deep violet highlights, while on the nose it releases aromas of fresh and ripe red fruits. The palate is greeted by a lively attack that evolves into a rounded and concentrated sip, finishing with a persistent note of liquorice with a pleasantly fresh character.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of the Saint-Émilion plateau, where the natural composition of the soil directly influences its organoleptic characteristics. The vine roots explore a complex clay-limestone terroir, supported by slopes rich in clay and sandy areas that impart great precision to the taste. The historic Chateau Soutard estate enhances this environmental context through its ancient buildings, adorned with an eighteenth-century façade and limestone wings. This deep synergy between environment and rural care results in a soft and elegant texture, endowed with a solid structure capable of evolving beautifully over time.
How it is produced
The production process begins with targeted yield management through thinning of the grape clusters, aimed at promoting maximum aromatic concentration. This is followed by a rigorous manual harvest of the grapes, accompanied by strict selection both in the vineyard and upon arrival at the winery. Vinification respects the original expression of the soil through careful destemming, preserving the clarity of the fruit. Maturation continues for eight months in French oak barrels, harmoniously integrating the tannic structure. This meticulous care ensures a rounded and distinctive sip, perfect for enhancing rich gastronomic pairings with red meats, baked pasta dishes and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities

In 2009, nearby Chateau Cadet-Piola joined the estate, bringing the total vineyard surface to nearly 60 hectares in one single block on the Saint-Emilion plateau, 30 of which belong to Chateau Soutard. Since the 2012 classification, Cadet-Piola is an integral part of Chateau Soutard and each of their three wines, the Grands Crus Classés Soutard and Larmande, as well as the Grand Cru Grand Faurie La Rose, continue to be vinified in their own cellars.
