Description

What kind of wine it is

Lacoste Borie is an elegant still red wine produced by Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, faithfully reflecting the distinctive style of Pauillac. This Bordeaux blend skilfully combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, offering a well-defined aromatic expression. The bouquet opens with notes of ripe red fruits, accompanied by subtle spicy hints. On the palate, it presents a medium body and fresh acidity, supported by velvety tannins that lead the sip towards a long, silky finish enriched by elegant hints of coffee.

Where it comes from

This red originates from the prestigious Pauillac area, located in the Médoc, at the heart of Bordeaux. The vines take root in deep gravelly soil, a formation that promotes excellent natural drainage and ensures even ripening of the grapes. The unique soil profile gives the wine a precise tannic structure and a balanced character. The estate boasts a family history dating back to the sixteenth century and has been linked to the Borie family since the late 1970s.

How it is produced

Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest, followed by two selections of the bunches before and after destemming. Vinification involves a long maceration period of about three weeks, essential for extracting colour and structure harmoniously. The wine then matures in French oak barrels for several months, with a proportion of new wood used. This rigorous technical process stabilises the deep ruby red colour and harmonises the texture of the sip with the intensity of the fruit.

History and Curiosities

The second wine of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Lacoste Borie 2021 embodies the elegance of Pauillac in a more immediate style. Produced from young vines on gravel outcrops, it involves manual harvesting and double grape selection. The historic estate, whose roots date back to the 16th century, has been run by the Borie family since 1978. Thanks to a shorter maturation in French oak, this Bordeaux red preserves the classic structure of the appellation, enhancing the freshness of the fruit for a pure and accessible tasting experience.

From this winery
The history of Grand Puy Lacoste is fascinating in many ways. It is a family saga going back to the 16th century. The name Grand-Puy, already mentioned in documents from the Middle Ages, comes from the ancient term "puy" which means "hillock, small height". True to its name, the vineyard sits on outcrops with a terroir similar to that of the Médoc's first growths. From Since the 16th century the property remained attached to a single family from generation to generation, in a direct line through marriage until 1920, before connecting with another family in 1978— the Borie.
