Description
What kind of wine is it
Mormoreto is a still red wine with an international character, produced by Frescobaldi at the Castello Nipozzano estate. It presents itself as a refined Bordeaux-style blend composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, enriched with Sangiovese to enhance its elegance. In the glass, it displays a structured profile, with fine-grained tannins and a very persistent finish. The bouquet weaves together notes of red fruits, blackberry, raspberry, bergamot, jasmine and balsamic herbs, wrapped in a light vanilla spice. This Toscana Rosso offers a vibrant sip and great ageing potential.
Where does it come from
This cru originates from the historic Florentine estate of Castello Nipozzano, whose origins date back to the year 1000. The wine’s identity is shaped by old vines over forty years old and the first plantings of international varieties introduced in 1855. The presence of Sangiovese in the blend firmly roots the wine in its territory, giving it further finesse and complexity. The soil and climate characteristics of this specific area result in a full and harmonious style, capable of enhancing its origin through a marked aptitude for ageing.
How is it produced
The process involves manual harvesting and a rigorous selection of the best bunches. Alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature lasts about ten days, followed by maceration on the skins, carefully defined through tasting. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for twenty-four months in French oak barrels, acquiring roundness and structural elegance. This is followed by a final resting period to broaden the aromatic spectrum. To enhance every nuance, it is recommended to decant for one hour and serve at a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.

Castello Nipozzano is, in fact, the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family, also thanks to the surrounding territory, as the name itself recounts: according to popular tradition, Nipozzano means in fact "without a well', indicating that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for growing vines.
The first 'reviews' on the quality of Nipozzano wine date back to the Renaissance, when even the great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to buy this wine. Castello Nipozzano, in fact, means Tuscan wine par excellence, Chianti Classico in particular, thanks to a regional winemaking tradition followed with constancy and commitment, without ever forgetting the desire to innovation.
The true history of Tuscany that has excelled the art of wine-making for thousands of years. A testimony of this is the fact that Marquises Frescobaldi already in 1855 invested 1,000 silver florins to begin cultivating varieties then unknown in Tuscany, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: after more than a century, the care of these magnificent vines enabled the production of the estate's great wine, Mormoreto.
