Description
What kind of wine it is
Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Chianti Rufina Riserva is a still red wine by Frescobaldi, an authentic expression of the Tuscan region. This elegant blend combines Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, Colorino and Malvasia Nera grapes, offering a deep and complex aromatic profile. On the nose, floral notes of dog rose and violet emerge, intertwined with small red berries, spicy nuances and a persistent balsamic trail. Shaped by fermentation in concrete and ageing in oak, on the palate it reveals itself as full and harmonious, supported by a fine tannic structure and a lively acidity that brings freshness to the sip. The finish is long and persistent, closing with elegant notes of white pepper and cocoa.
Where it comes from
This red is born on the estates of Castello Nipozzano, located in the heart of Chianti Rufina. The grapes come from a selection of old vines, with plants trained using the Guyot system and equipped with a deep root system. The rows stretch at three hundred metres altitude with a south-eastern exposure, a factor that ensures optimal and regular ripening of the bunches. The terroir is characterised by alberese soils, well-drained and poor in organic matter. This combination encourages the development of concentrated grapes, giving the wine a pronounced savouriness and remarkable ageing potential.
How it is produced
After the harvest at the end of September, vinification begins with a spontaneous fermentation in concrete vats, activated exclusively by indigenous yeasts. A prolonged maceration on the skins, supported by frequent pumping over, ensures optimal extraction of colour and polyphenolic components. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation stabilises the structure of the wine. Ageing continues for twenty-four months in large oak casks, where the liquid acquires softness and perfectly integrates the toasted notes. A final period of rest in the bottle defines its final gustatory balance before release to the market.

Castello Nipozzano is, in fact, the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family, also thanks to the surrounding territory, as the name itself recounts: according to popular tradition, Nipozzano means in fact "without a well', indicating that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for growing vines.
The first 'reviews' on the quality of Nipozzano wine date back to the Renaissance, when even the great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to buy this wine. Castello Nipozzano, in fact, means Tuscan wine par excellence, Chianti Classico in particular, thanks to a regional winemaking tradition followed with constancy and commitment, without ever forgetting the desire to innovation.
The true history of Tuscany that has excelled the art of wine-making for thousands of years. A testimony of this is the fact that Marquises Frescobaldi already in 1855 invested 1,000 silver florins to begin cultivating varieties then unknown in Tuscany, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: after more than a century, the care of these magnificent vines enabled the production of the estate's great wine, Mormoreto.
