Description
What kind of wine it is
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo by Castello di Ama is a Tuscan red wine of great structure and depth. This blend combines Sangiovese, Merlot and Malvasia Nera grapes, expressing a vibrant and textural profile. On the nose, intense notes of cherry, blackberry and plum stand out, embellished by elegant hints of leather and spices. On the palate, the tannic structure is enveloping and harmonious, supported by a pleasant freshness. The finish is persistent, with delicate echoes of wet earth and well-integrated spices, the result of ageing in oak barrels, and it is perfect for pairing with grilled red meats, rich first courses and matured cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the renowned San Lorenzo valley, among the hills of Gaiole in Chianti. The vineyards grow on clay-limestone soils rich in rock fragments, characterised by optimal drainage. Situated between 460 and 525 metres above sea level, the rows enjoy an ideal microclimate for viticulture. Significant temperature fluctuations between day and night favour a slow ripening of the bunches, concentrating the aromas in the berries. Cultivated using the simple Guyot system, the vines faithfully convey the identity of the terroir of origin.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous hand-harvesting of the grapes. The different varieties ferment separately in temperature-controlled steel tanks, thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. A prolonged maceration, managed with frequent pump-overs, ensures an excellent extraction of colour and body. At the end of malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for approximately ten months in fine-grained oak barrels. This process favours the integration of the components and outlines the final structure of the wine.
