Description

What kind of wine it is

Florus Vendemmia Tardiva by Banfi is a dessert wine that enhances the essence of Moscato Bianco. An interpretation of the renowned Moscadello di Montalcino, this sweet white is born from meticulous natural withering on the vine aimed at concentrating sugars and aromatic intensity. The bouquet reveals an intense aromatic profile, with notes of dried apricot, honey and candied orange. On the palate, it stands out for its enveloping texture, where the generous residual sugar is balanced by a lively freshness, leading to a silky and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes for this passito grow in the heart of Montalcino, within the evocative landscape of Tuscany. The rows are trained using the spurred cordon system and take root in mainly clay soils, shallow and rich in pebbles. This specific geological composition, combined with low yields, encourages the ripening of rich and concentrated fruit. The climatic conditions of the area give the wine a natural acidity that supports the structure of the sip, imparting a marked territorial identity that translates into a harmonious and balanced tasting experience.

How it is produced

Production begins with the dehydration of the bunches directly on the vine, a fundamental step in defining the character of the Late Harvest. After harvesting, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature to preserve the primary aromas, while a small portion of the must ferments in French oak barrels. The subsequent ageing process involves maturation divided between wood and steel. This technical choice enriches the structural texture of the wine without overpowering the clarity of the fruit, ensuring a perfect balance between tactile softness, expressive brilliance and lasting persistence.

History and Curiosities

Florus is a historic excellence by Banfi, created to celebrate the prestige of Moscadello di Montalcino DOC. This fine late harvest wine is born from the natural drying on the vine of White Muscat, releasing enchanting notes of apricot, candied orange and honey. The 2020 vintage is perfected through skilful ageing between steel and French barriques, acquiring an incredibly silky texture. Praised by critics, this wine offers a perfect balance on the palate, harmonising sugary sweetness with a fresh acidity.

Founded in 1978 by the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a marriage of winemaking passion and technological innovation. Through collaboration with Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's most eminent winemakers, the land purchased in Montalcino was transformed into a crucible of quality and potential. The acquisition of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone subsequently further enriched the portfolio, integrating the sparkling wine tradition of Piedmont into the Banfi world.

Always pioneers, we value research and people, respecting the territories in which we work. For a better wine world. We see a global and connected world, where differences are wealth. The products of our land, to be defended and enhanced, are the best expression of human labor and ingenuity.
