Description

Type of wine

Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura Riserva by Banfi is a Tuscan red with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG), vinified in steel and wood vats. It presents a deep colour with bright garnet reflections. Its olfactory profile is broad and layered, characterised by clear notes of plum jam, hints of cocoa and roasted coffee, which close with a fresh balsamic trace. On the palate, it reveals an impressive and enveloping structure, supported by mature and silky tannins that make the sip velvety, full and perfectly harmonious, capable of faithfully expressing the great potential of the terroir.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the vineyards situated on the hills surrounding Poggio alle Mura, in the municipality of Montalcino. The vines grow at an altitude of approximately two hundred metres, grown using the spurred cordon system to ensure a balanced yield. The soil is distinguished by its calcareous matrix and sandy-loam texture, with a subsoil rich in Pliocene marine sediments and abundant stones. These specific geological characteristics give the grapes a defined aromatic profile and a distinctive personality.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with a calibrated maceration of approximately two weeks, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in vats that integrate the properties of steel and wood. Subsequent maturation takes place for two years in French oak casks, a fundamental step to stabilise the aromatic component and smooth the tannic texture. Finally, a further twelve months of refinement perfects the gustatory balance. If decanted for an hour before serving, it fully expresses its potential alongside mature cheeses and platters of fine cured meats.

Founded in 1978 by the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a marriage of winemaking passion and technological innovation. Through collaboration with Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's most eminent winemakers, the land purchased in Montalcino was transformed into a crucible of quality and potential. The acquisition of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone subsequently further enriched the portfolio, integrating the sparkling wine tradition of Piedmont into the Banfi world.

Always pioneers, we value research and people, respecting the territories in which we work. For a better wine world. We see a global and connected world, where differences are wealth. The products of our land, to be defended and enhanced, are the best expression of human labor and ingenuity.
