Description

What kind of wine it is

Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Giovanni Neri is a still red wine that fully expresses the essence of the Tuscan region. Produced by the Casanova di Neri winery exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, it stands out for its structured and complex style, ideal for long ageing. It appears a vivid, brilliant red in the glass. On the palate, it reveals very fine tannins, creamy and enveloping, supported by a balanced acidity that leads to a deep and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This Brunello di Montalcino originates in the heart of the Ilcinesi hills, from old vines cultivated in excellent soil and climate conditions. The Sangiovese harvest is carried out by hand, preserving the integrity of the bunches. Before and after destemming, each grape undergoes a rigorous manual selection, a fundamental step to ensure only the best raw material. The wine expresses a strong territorial character, offering a generous structure and extraordinary aromatic concentration.

How it is produced

Fermentation occurs spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts in wooden vats at a controlled temperature, with the use of some whole bunches. The maceration on the skins lasts for twenty-nine days, with frequent punch-downs allowing for meticulous extraction of the noble components. Afterwards, the wine matures for a long period in wooden barrels, completing its ageing in the bottle. The aromatic profile combines notes of blueberries, cherries and plums with fresh hints of blood orange, making it the ideal pairing for red meats, mature cheeses and game dishes.

History and Curiosities

Dedicated to the founder to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the estate, established in 1971, the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Giovanni Neri is a masterful tribute to Tuscan tradition. Thanks to its extraordinary longevity of over 25 years, this fine red has captivated international critics, earning an impressive 98 points from James Suckling.

Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri to embark on a great adventure. Passionate about wine, Neri had long dreamed of making a great Italian red, and although the long-established wine zone of Chianti Classico was just on his doorstep, it was remote Montalcino and its austere Sangiovese wines that fascinated him. In May 1971, he bought Podere Casanova, changed its name to Casanova di Neri, and in consultation with some of Tuscany’s leading winemakers, immediately began work to restore the estate’s existing Sangiovese vines and plant new ones. In 1991 Giovanni Neri dies. His son Giacomo takes over the running of the winery.

In 2017 Casanova di Neri expands into hospitality with the inauguration of the Relais, a charming ten-room restored farmhouse amidst the vineyards, just steps from the winery. In the same year, Gianlorenzo Neri enters the family business alongside his father Giacomo and brother Giovanni.
