Description
What kind of wine it is
Gentile di Casanova by La Spinetta is a still red wine that encapsulates the true essence of Tuscany. Made from Prugnolo Gentile grapes, a historic biotype of Sangiovese, it stands out for its full-bodied structure and impeccable palate clarity. The aromatic bouquet reveals intense scents of cherry, plum and wild berries, framed by delicate floral nuances and refreshing hints of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it expresses a very concentrated fruit, enveloped by sweet, rounded tannins. The tasting experience is completed by a subtle balsamic menthol note, which imparts great balance and a pleasantly spicy persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the province of Pisa, from organically managed vineyards located between the municipalities of Terricciola and Casciana Terme. Situated at around two hundred and fifty metres above sea level with an optimal south-east exposure, the thirty-year-old vines enjoy ideal climatic conditions for slow and steady ripening. The true heart of this terroir lies in the sandy soils of marine origin, rich in oceanic sediments. This particular geological profile is directly reflected in the glass, giving the wine a distinct mineral character that clearly enhances both the aroma and the taste.
How it is produced
To ensure the highest quality expression, yields are deliberately kept low. After about seven days of maceration and alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in wooden vats. The maturation continues with a long ageing in large French oak barrels for about two years, followed by a period in stainless steel and then in bottle. This ruby red wine pairs magnificently with rich truffle-based dishes, red meats, game and mature cheeses. It is recommended to decant for about an hour to fully appreciate its delicate and elegant finish.
History and Curiosities
Born among the picturesque Tuscan vineyards of Terricciola, this wine celebrates La Spinetta's intuition in vinifying the ancient Prugnolo Gentile grape in purity. Grown on sandy soils of marine origin at an altitude of 250 metres, the thirty-year-old vines give the glass an extraordinary aromatic concentration and a vibrant mineral note. The 2021 vintage, awarded 92 points by Wine Advocate and 5 bunches by Bibenda, masterfully combines refined elegance with sweet tannins, offering an authentic and moving expression of the territory.
