Description
What kind of wine is it
Carranco Etna Bianco Contrada Carranco is a still white wine born from the collaboration between Carranco, Borgogno and Tornatore. Made entirely from Carricante grapes, it displays a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The multifaceted bouquet offers fruity notes of green apple, grapefruit and ripe white peach, enriched by pleasant hints of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is intense and enveloping, driven by a vibrant mineral freshness and pronounced savouriness. The solid acidic backbone gives this glass from Etna a remarkable ageing potential.
Where does it come from
The roots of this wine lie in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, specifically in Contrada Carranco. The vineyards stretch along the northern slope of Etna at five hundred metres above sea level, enjoying an exposure that ensures an ideal microclimate. The vines draw their energy from a deep volcanic soil, capable of imparting an unmistakable territorial character. The vineyard, managed with a spur-pruned cordon system over seven hectares, has about four thousand plants per hectare: an agronomic care that encourages the development of a clear expression, ensuring a strong territorial identity.
How is it produced
Harvesting takes place at the end of September, with careful selection of the bunches in the field. Vinification begins with temperature-controlled fermentation in steel and cement tanks, to preserve the primary aromatic profile and ensure olfactory precision. The process is completed with maturation in cement for six or seven months, during which the wine rests on its fine lees. This stage is essential to give breadth and roundness to the sip, balancing the acidic tension with an enveloping tactile sensation.
History and Curiosities
Born from the prestigious collaboration between the Borgogno and Tornatore wineries, Carranco Etna Bianco expresses the most authentic soul of the volcano. This elegant wine is produced in Castiglione di Sicilia, where the vines sink their roots into volcanic soil at an altitude of 500 metres. The meticulous ageing in cement on fine lees enhances the innate class of the native Carricante, offering an enveloping and intense sip, characterised by a vibrant mineral freshness that ensures extraordinary longevity.

Carranco was born from the meeting of Borgogno and Tornatore, a blend of history, experience, and authentic Ethnean roots.
The vineyards are located on the volcano's northern flank, and only traditional methods of vinification are used. It only grows native vines, primarily Nerello Mescalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Carricante, which are the purest expressions of Etna, and it is from the volcanic soils that they draw the power, strength, and explosiveness of each eruption.
