Description

What kind of wine it is

The Brunello di Montalcino from Cantina di Montalcino is a still red wine made from Sangiovese grapes. It appears a clear ruby red in the glass, accompanied by an intense and persistent aromatic profile. On the nose, notes of blackberry and cherry emerge, combined with refined hints of cocoa and spices. On the palate, it reveals itself as powerful and elegant, with velvety tannins perfectly integrated into a deep structure. The prolonged finish offers a pleasant aftertaste of sweet tobacco. This wine is best enjoyed with substantial red meats, game, and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The vines grow on the Sienese hills of Montalcino, in the Val di Cava subzone. The area is protected by Monte Amiata and bordered by the valleys of the Orcia, Asso, and Ombrone rivers, which create slopes with specific soil and climate conditions. This configuration enhances the aromatic intensity typical of Brunello di Montalcino. The agronomic management is overseen by the Cantina di Montalcino under the guidance of oenologist Riccardo Pucci. The company makes the most of the local microclimate, harvesting only healthy bunches that express the authenticity of the surrounding area.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a careful selection of the grape bunches. The red vinification involves maceration on the skins for about fifteen to twenty days, essential to enhance the character of the Sangiovese grape. Thanks to gentle pumping over, fermentation is managed at controlled temperatures to best extract the polyphenols. The wine then continues with ageing in Slavonian oak barrels for at least two years. This slow maturation smooths its structure and enriches its complexity, giving it remarkable longevity, ideal for long ageing.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1970, the Cantina di Montalcino is the only cooperative to produce this renowned wine among the lush hills of Siena. An expression of a unique territory, shaped by Monte Amiata and the surrounding valleys, this Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is made exclusively from 100% Sangiovese grapes. A meticulous maceration and ageing in oak barrels give rise to a red wine of unmistakable elegance. An absolute excellence, awarded 92 points by James Suckling, offering the palate velvety tannins, notes of black fruits and a harmonious finish.

Cantina di Montalcino was founded in 1970 by a small group of winemakers. Many of their families still contribute their grapes, continuing to ensure the success of the winery. Their vineyards extend across the four quadrants and guarantee the production of great quality, characterful wines, vintage after vintage.

Cantina di Montalcino is located about 35km from Siena, right opposite the Sienese hilltop town of the same name, surrounded by meadows, olive trees and the beautiful vineyards of the Val di Cava, along the extraordinary Eroica route.
