Description
What kind of wine it is
Piwi Mezan by Cantina 837 is a refined still white wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the result of a carefully crafted blend of Sauvignon Kretos and Solaris. On the nose, clear aromas of quince, acacia flowers and citrus notes emerge, enhanced by hints of white peach. The palate opens with lively freshness that evolves into a pronounced mineral savouriness, giving the wine a full structure. Aromatic hints of custard and almond accompany the tasting towards a long and structured finish.
Where it comes from
The roots of Piwi Mezan lie in Forni di Sotto, in the splendid mountain setting of Carnia. The vineyards are situated at eight hundred and fifty metres above sea level with an east to west exposure, immersed in a mountain climate that defines the vibrant character of the grapes. The soil, composed of loamy clay with a fine texture, gives the wine its unmistakable savoury imprint. The name recalls an ancient medieval adjective indicating the middle way, highlighting the rigorous balance of style pursued by Cantina 837.
How it is produced
The viticulture focuses on enhancing PIWI resistant varieties, a choice aimed at minimising chemical interventions to safeguard the vitality of the vineyard. The vines are grown using a modified bush training system and the harvest takes place between September and October. The wine matures for six months in American oak barrels, a stage that enriches its enveloping texture, elegantly integrating notes of custard and a subtle final spiciness.
