Description

What kind of wine is it

Calvet's Crémant de Bordeaux Extra Brut is a sparkling wine with a designation of origin from the Bordeaux region, a refined blend of Merlot and Sémillon. It displays a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights, an extremely fine perlage achieved through the Traditional Method, and fragrant notes of brioche and lemon sorbet. On the palate, it is dry and taut, enlivened by a vibrant citrus streak. It is ideal paired with sushi, shellfish, seafood fritters and soft cheeses.

Where does it come from

This label by Calvet originates from the Bordeaux wine-growing area. The vineyards grow on clay-limestone soils, a matrix that ensures the vines have optimal balance and gives the fruit a pronounced aromatic definition. The nature of the soil supports the freshness and minerality of the sip. This solid structural foundation guarantees excellent ageing potential, capable of faithfully expressing the prestigious Bordeaux terroir in the glass.

How is it produced

Production uses the Traditional Method, with a secondary fermentation designed to achieve a regular and persistent mousse. Contact with the lees blends pastry notes with varietal freshness, resulting in an Extra Brut style of absolute gustatory clarity and a rigorous finish. To enhance its brilliance, a serving temperature between 6 and 8°C is recommended, perfect for accompanying refined seafood dishes.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1818, Maison Calvet showcases the oenological excellence of Bordeaux in its Crémant de Bordeaux AOC vintage 2023. The generous Magnum format of 1.5 litres is the ideal choice for accompanying grand celebratory toasts, as it best preserves the exquisite finesse of the perlage. Awarded two stars by the Hachette Guide, it also boasts a remarkable ageing potential, estimated between five and ten years.
