Description
What kind of wine it is
Lasón Merlot Riserva by Kellerei Kaltern is a still red wine that elegantly interprets the character of the Alto Adige region. Made from Merlot grapes, it stands out for its intense and bright ruby colour. On the nose, it offers an enveloping profile, where notes of blackberry, black cherry and small red fruits stand out, enhanced by hints of liquorice, star anise and eucalyptus. On the palate, it reveals a medium body, supported by perfectly balanced tannins that enhance its pleasantness. The finish is characterised by a return of sweet fruit, making it the ideal companion for dark meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from south-facing hillside vineyards, located in a natural basin between 250 and 350 metres above sea level. The area surrounding Lake Caldaro benefits from a very warm and mild microclimate, an essential condition for the full ripening of the grapes. The vines sink their roots into alluvial and clay soils, rich in silt and gravel. This specific soil composition gives the wine a balanced structure and a refined aromatic complexity.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a two-week fermentation on the skins, aimed at carefully extracting colour and structure. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which is fundamental for giving the sip greater roundness and harmony. Ageing continues for twelve months in barrels, partly new, allowing the wine to evolve while maintaining the integrity of the fruit's identity. A light filtration precedes the final stage, safeguarding the most authentic and pure expression of the grape variety.
