Description
What kind of wine it is
The Grobner St. Magdalener Classico by Kaltern is a still red wine that offers a clear and authentic expression of its territory. This blend of Schiava and Lagrein appears in the glass with a ruby red colour enriched by garnet reflections. On the nose, dominant notes of cherry emerge, accompanied by hints of almond, violet, and a subtle trace of vanilla. On the palate, it reveals a vibrant and velvety structure, supported by lively and fine tannins that lead the sip towards a persistent aftertaste.
Where it comes from
This red wine comes to life in Trentino-Alto Adige, in the heart of the classic Santa Maddalena area. The vines sink their roots into sandy and clay soils rich in porphyry, which have the ability to retain heat. The hillside vineyards, situated between 300 and 450 metres above sea level with a southern exposure, benefit from the constant influence of the lake. This particular microclimate ensures a slow and gradual ripening of the grapes, an essential factor in defining the balance and aromatic richness of the glass.
How it is produced
Production begins with the manual harvesting of grapes from historic low-yield vineyards, cultivated using the traditional pergola system. In the cellar, classic maceration on the skins is carried out to extract the noblest components of the bunches. This is followed by a seven-month ageing period in large oak barrels, a fundamental step to enhance the wine's elegance without overpowering the fruit's fragrance. It is the ideal companion to enhance roast red meats and cheeses, as well as flavourful first courses typical of Mediterranean cuisine.
History and Curiosities
Originating from Bolzano, the Grobner St. Magdalener Classico from Cantina Kaltern embodies over a century of prestigious winemaking tradition. This historic cooperative selects grapes from old, low-yield vines grown on pergolas, situated on south-facing slopes where the proximity to the lake ensures slow and steady ripening. After careful hand harvesting, the wine is refined for seven months in large oak barrels, enhancing the quality of this label. A tribute to the South Tyrolean region, with a vibrant structure and silky texture.
