Description
What type of wine it is
Barbaresco Pora by Ca' del Baio is a red wine that precisely expresses the identity of the Nebbiolo grape variety grown in Piedmont. It represents a faithful expression of the Barbaresco appellation, distinguishing itself with a bright garnet red colour and a structured, complex flavour profile. On the nose, it offers a rich bouquet with fruity notes of plum and blackberry, accompanied by clear hints of vanilla and toasted hazelnut. On the palate, it reveals an austere and full-bodied sip, enveloped by a silky tannic texture and characterised by a marked sapidity, preserved by the absence of filtration and long maturation in wooden casks.
Where it comes from
The origin of this wine lies in the renowned Pora Cru, located within the municipality of Barbaresco, in Piedmont. The vineyards benefit from a favourable south-westerly exposure, a privileged geographical condition that ensures regular and optimal ripening for the Nebbiolo clusters. The roots of the vines delve into a peculiar soil, mainly composed of calcareous-sandy bluish marls. This specific soil composition represents a decisive element, as it gives the wine's structure a natural tension, a distinct sapid footprint and high longevity that faithfully reflects the characteristics of the territory of origin.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a careful selection of the grapes, which are subsequently destemmed to start the fermentation on the skins. This stage takes place inside temperature-controlled steel tanks and lasts for approximately thirty days, ensuring excellent extraction of chromatic and phenolic components. Maturation continues in third and fourth-passage French oak casks, before concluding with bottle ageing for approximately ten months. The technical choice of no filtration before bottling is strictly aimed at preserving the varietal purity, integrity and structural richness of the finished product.
History and Curiosities
Born from a unique wager by the renowned Ca' del Baio winery in two thousand and four, this Barbaresco expresses the intimate soul of the historic Pora cru. This exclusive vintage represents a true rarity for collectors, boasting a very limited production of only nine hundred and fifty bottles and twenty-five precious magnum formats. The radical production choice to use zero filtration before bottling enhances its pure authenticity. This excellent Piedmontese red has earned ninety-four Vinous points and the four vines from the Vitae AIS guide.

The natural heritage of 31 hectares of vineyards is concentrated mainly on the most suitable places for the production of Barbaresco: Marcarini, Pora, Asili, Vallegrande.
A biological management and non-invasive winemaking techniques, which also exclude the filtration of wines and contemplate the use of large barrels, allow a clear reading of the vintages and terroirs. And the not happy vintage, as it was considered 2014, actually only partially in the Babaresco area, highlights the fabric of the skilled winemaker.
