Description
What kind of wine it is
The Primont Pinot Nero from Bosco del Merlo elegantly expresses the identity of Friuli. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, it displays a pale red colour with delicate garnet highlights. On the nose, it is clear and defined, characterised by notes of small red fruits such as currant and raspberry, interwoven with hints of black pepper and cloves. On the palate, it stands out for its light yet well-structured body, supported by a pleasant savouriness and a defined tannic texture. It finishes with a persistent aftertaste, making it excellent paired with truffle risottos, roast meats, herb-crusted lamb and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the well-ventilated vineyards of Sequals, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, at around 270 metres above sea level. The vines thrive on pebble-rich soil, which, together with significant temperature variations, ensures optimal aromatic development of the grapes. These microclimatic conditions preserve the natural freshness, guaranteeing harmony between acidity and structure. The name Primont pays tribute to the local boxer Primo Carnera, reflecting a strong territorial bond, enhanced through careful and sustainable vineyard management.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest to select only the best bunches. In the winery, fermentation and maceration on the skins take place at controlled temperatures. Gentle daily pump-overs optimise the extraction of polyphenols, while respecting the integrity of the fruit. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the flavour profile, followed by six months of ageing in stainless steel. This technical choice preserves the primary aromas and the lively freshness of the grape variety, offering a clean and immediate sensory expression.
History and Curiosities
The name Primont is a tribute to the boxer Primo Carnera, a native of Sequals and famous as “the walking mountain”. Just as the champion believed that character is born from the feet, the Bosco del Merlo winery embodies this principle through its deep connection with the land. Created under the care of oenologist Antonio Lucarelli through sustainable and organic viticulture, this red wine represents the company’s flagship Pinot Noir: an elegant expression of the Friuli DOC that encapsulates the authentic Friulian identity in a light yet highly complex sip.

The Bosco del Merlo estate winery started up in 1977 in Annone Veneto, founded by siblings Carlo, Lucia and Roberto Paladin. Thanks to a profitable collaboration with the Istituto Sperimentale per la Viticoltura di Conegliano, a careful and modern zoning technique was immediately implemented in order to get the best out of the terroir, working the vineyard piece by piece. In the nineties, in the small town of Lison di Portogruaro, the cradle of viticulture in this wine-making region, a further 50 hectares of land was acquired, which therefore doubled capacity, increasing it to around 100 hectares in total.
Over the course of the years Bosco del Merlo has benefited from the advice of famous oenologists and experts from the Faculties of Oenology and Agriculture in Padua and Milan, such as Franco Bernabei and Leonardo Valenti, in its quest to find the most forward-thinking solutions for achieving optimal quality with the lowest environmental impact.
