Description
What kind of wine is it
Gran Enemigo Red Blend from the Aleanna winery is an Argentinian red wine that faithfully reflects the character of Mendoza. Conceived as a Bordeaux-style blend, it perfectly harmonises Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot. It stands out for its deep colour with violet highlights and a silky texture, supported by elegant tannins and lively acidity. The palate evolves towards a persistent finish, making it the ideal companion for red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where does it come from
This red is produced in Argentina, from grapes grown in the Uco Valley, between the terroirs of Gualtallary in Tupungato and Agrelo. The vineyards, situated at altitudes between 1,400 and 1,470 metres, rest on calcareous and rocky soils characterised by high planting density. These particular high-altitude conditions define a complex aromatic profile, with notes of ripe black and red fruits, orange peel, cocoa, sweet spices and sandalwood, offering an authentic territorial expression of this renowned mountain region.
How is it produced
Vinification involves a cold maceration, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats and oak barrels. The prolonged maceration includes a proportion of whole bunches to enrich the wine's structure. The ageing phase lasts twenty-four months: sixteen spent in concrete and eight in French and American oak barrels. The decision not to clarify or filter preserves the wine's integrity, naturally and harmoniously enhancing its balsamic and toasted notes.
History and Curiosities
Born from the vision of Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena, Gran Enemigo 2020 is a majestic Bordeaux-style blend that pays homage to the tradition of Pomerol. This fine reserve, awarded 94 points by James Suckling, expresses the authentic essence of the renowned Gualtallary terroir in Mendoza. Thanks to the skilful use of indigenous yeasts and the complete absence of filtration, the wine preserves a rare aromatic purity, harmoniously blending intense notes of black fruits and sweet spices with velvety tannins, in an elegant and persistent sip.
