Description
What kind of wine it is
Bibbiano Chianti Classico is an organic still red wine. Made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, it stands out for its robust and balanced style. Visually, it displays a deep ruby red colour with purple highlights, while on the nose it releases hints of orange peel, violet and rose. On the palate, it reveals delicate notes of blackcurrant, strawberry and cherry, enriched by nuances of peach and vanilla. Thanks to its structure, it pairs perfectly with meat dishes and mature or flavourful cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from Castellina in Chianti, where Bibbiano's hillside vineyards stretch up to three hundred and ten metres above sea level. The vines sink their roots into soils with a calcareous-clay composition rich in Alberese, dating back to the Pliocene period. These particular environmental conditions ensure excellent grape ripening, giving the wine an authentic territorial character and a well-defined taste texture.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place in the first half of September to ensure optimal quality. The vinification process involves a sixteen-day fermentation in steel, accompanied by a careful maceration phase. Subsequently, the wine undergoes ageing in cement vats for twelve months. This technical choice preserves the aromatic integrity of the grape variety, offering an expressive and lively freshness. It is recommended to decant the wine at least one hour before serving.
History and Curiosities
Located in Castellina in Chianti, the Tenuta di Bibbiano is a historic estate of the Chianti Classico DOCG, always managed by the same family. Today, the Marrocchesi Marzi brothers oversee thirty hectares of lush hillside vineyards, situated between 270 and 310 metres above sea level. The vines thrive on particularly suitable soils, composed of clay and alberese, ensuring low yields and grapes of excellent quality, harvested at the beginning of September. This dedication gives rise to expressive and characterful wines, often awarded prestigious wine prizes.

On the edge of this immense natural and human heritage, since 1865 our family has continued the cultivation of vineyards and olive trees with passion, making it alive, modern and up-to-date thanks to an entrepreneurial tradition that has been handed down from father to son, and which has now reached the fifth generation, in the persons of Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi.
Surrounded by vast olive groves of more than three thousand plants, the vineyards of Bibbiano extend over a total area of about 30 hectares between 270 and 310 metres above sea level, set on hill slopes that enjoy an enviable exposure and an excellent microclimate, characterised by clay deposits of the Pliocene age that are rich in limestone.
Our aim is to produce high quality wines, by virtue of a firm choice to exalt the genius loci of Bibbiano, namely the soul of the distinctive geography and the human heritage of the place, generating balanced, elegant wines with distinctive, and sometimes even powerful, personalities with very clear textures.
