Description

What kind of wine is it

Susu is a still red wine by Bentu Luna, an authentic expression of Cannonau. In the glass, it reveals an intense ruby red hue, outlining an aromatic profile led by fragrant red and dark fruits. The bouquet expands with clear spicy notes and hints of pepper that meet the balsamic scents of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the sip reveals a fresh and savoury character, supported by a well-balanced structure and a long-lasting finish that faithfully echoes the aromas perceived on the nose.

Where does it come from

The roots of this wine lie in the heart of Sardinia, among the vineyards cultivated in the municipality of Neoneli. This specific area, located in the ancient Giudicato of Arborea, has a strong winemaking tradition closely linked to local rural customs, enhanced by the work of Bentu Luna. The geographical conditions of the area shape the identity of Cannonau di Sardegna, giving the wine an unmistakable savoury drive. The deep territorial connection delivers a sip that embodies the purest essence of the Mediterranean environment.

How is it produced

The cellar process involves a slow destemming, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. This phase begins by alternating whole berries and bunches, managing the cap with gentle manual punch-downs to achieve controlled extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine rests in second-use oak barrels. During ageing, a delicate bâtonnage is performed, a technique that promotes the perfect integration of the elements and defines the final harmony.

History and Curiosities

Born in the heart of the ancient Giudicato of Arborea, Susu 2020 is an excellent Cannonau di Sardegna DOC by Bentu Luna. The result of the Moratti family's project to enhance Sardinian rural traditions, this red wine comes to life in Neoneli through spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. The use of whole berries and bunches gives it a spicy aromatic profile, enriched with notes of pepper and dark fruits. Ageing in barriques imparts a fresh sip with long persistence, awarded 92 points by James Suckling.

In the heart of the ancient Giudicato di Arborea, among the hills of Barigadu and Mandrolisei, small vineyards of no more than one hectare each are preserved, testimony to the Sardinian rural soul that, in a timeless symbiotic relationship, respects woodland and granite landscapes that are among the wildest on the island. The sandy, granite decaying soils are still worked with oxen and are home to typical varieties such as bovale, cannonau and other indigenous Sardinian varieties.

The Bentu Luna winery, a new project of the Moratti family, is located in Neoneli, a village of pre-Nuragic origin modelled on the typical red trachyte, rich in ancestral memories such as the tenores choirs and the carnival animated by the soc Corriolos masks and bonfires in the square. A strategic choice, therefore, aimed at highlighting unexplored and authentic parts of the rural tradition.
