Description

What kind of wine it is

Belguardo Bronzone Morellino di Scansano Riserva is a Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes, expressing a structured and distinctive character. In the glass, it displays a clear ruby colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it releases aromas of plum, blackcurrant and violet, enriched by notes of sweet spices, graphite and a delicate balsamic undertone. On the palate, it reveals a full and enveloping body, supported by velvety tannins and a pronounced savouriness that prolongs its persistence. Its innate elegance makes it ideal for pairing with lasagne with ragù, game, and grilled red meats.

Where it comes from

This red originates in the heart of the Maremma, within the Montebottigli area. The Belguardo vineyards are situated on hills close to the coast, allowing the vines to benefit from the sea breezes, essential for preserving aromatic freshness. The plots are located at an altitude between seventy and one hundred and thirty metres, with optimal exposure to the south and south-west. The soils, composed of sandstone and alberese limestone, give Morellino di Scansano its recognisable mineral and saline imprint, faithfully reflecting the unique features of the local landscape.

How it is produced

After the manual harvest, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for about fifteen days, optimising the extraction of aromas and colour. Ageing continues for fourteen months in small French oak barrels, which define the structure while elegantly integrating the spicy notes. Thanks to careful vinification and a balanced acidic component, the wine acquires an excellent ageing potential, proving capable of evolving positively for over ten years.

History and Curiosities

Located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, the Tenuta Belguardo of the Mazzei marquises expresses the authentic soul of the region through the Bronzone Riserva. This excellent Morellino di Scansano DOCG is born from the most renowned Sangiovese cru of Montebottigli, benefiting from the cool breezes of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Thanks to careful manual harvesting and ageing in French oak barriques, the wine develops a complex minerality and velvety tannins, translating the excellence of the terroir into an enveloping experience with a strong identity.

In the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, on the hills between Grosseto and Montiano and next to the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Belguardo Estate is one of the most important businesses in the region. Purchased by the Mazzei family in the middle of the 90's, the property covers an overall area of 70 hectares, half of which is devoted to special viewyards. A very special terroir, which is the result of many years of research, and on which an intense vineyard replanting program was started immediately after the purchase with a precise choice of the varietals and clones.
