Description
What kind of wine it is
Belguardo Tirrenico Maremma Toscana Rosso embodies the essence of the Tuscan Maremma. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante offers an intense and well-defined aromatic profile, characterised by notes of Mediterranean scrub, blackcurrant and spicy nuances. On the palate, it displays a concentrated structure, well balanced by natural freshness and a savoury, enveloping finish, resulting in an elegant glass that precisely reflects the characteristics of the region.
Where it comes from
The Belguardo vineyards are located in Montebottigli, on hilly slopes a short distance from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vines grow between 100 and 180 metres above sea level, with south and south-west exposures, where the sea breezes aid the ripening of the grapes. The distinctive calcareous and sandstone composition of the soils, rich in pebbles, imparts an unmistakable aromatic clarity and a pleasant saline sensation to the wine.
How it is produced
The grapes, carefully hand-harvested, come from vines trained using the spur-pruned cordon method. Fermentation and maceration for twenty days take place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The subsequent ageing lasts fourteen months in French oak barrels and continues with over a year of bottle ageing, essential for smoothing the tannins. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving.
History and Curiosities
Inspired by the figure of the Etruscan prince Tyrrhenus, the Belguardo Tirrenico embodies the noble wine culture handed down through the millennia. This elegant red is born in Montebottigli, where the rows of vines benefit from the salutary influence of breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. The estate, established by the Mazzei Marquises in 1997, combines the image of Leonardo da Vinci's polyhedron with the number 1435 imprinted on the label, a symbol of the long family tradition. A tribute to the Maremma that skilfully weaves together the allure of ancient myth with oenological excellence.
