Description

What type of wine it is

Bel Colle Verduno Pelaverga is a still red wine produced by the Bel Colle winery in the Piedmont region. Made with Pelaverga Piccolo grapes, this red authentically expresses the Verduno Pelaverga denomination. It presents an intense aromatic profile in which cherries, plums, red fruits and a typical spicy note of white pepper stand out. On the palate, it offers a velvety and delicate texture, characterised by a fresh acidity that leads towards a harmonious finish. Vinification in stainless steel tanks and ageing on the lees allow the fruity qualities and the slenderness of the sip to be kept intact.

Where it comes from

This red originates in the Verduno hills and in selected areas of the neighbouring municipalities of Roddi and La Morra, within the famous Langhe territory in Piedmont. The vines of this rare indigenous variety take root in clay-limestone soils which give the wine its typical freshness and excellent structural balance. Cultivation in this historical area enhances the natural spicy signature of the grape variety, preserving a local production of great value. The pedoclimatic characteristics of these areas guarantee an ideal environment for the ripening of the grapes, allowing for a distinct taste elegance.

How it is produced

Production begins with a rigorous manual harvest, accompanied by careful sorting of the bunches to ensure the quality of the raw material. After the de-stemming phase, the must is transferred for alcoholic fermentation, conducted at a controlled temperature using selected yeasts. During the process, the wine undergoes maceration on the skins lasting about six to eight days, enriched by delicate pump-overs to encourage correct aromatic extraction. Ageing takes place for a period of six months in contact with its own lees, an oenological practice that gives greater softness and balance to the final structure.

History and curiosities

Historically founded in 1967 in the heart of the picturesque Langhe, the prestigious Bel Colle winery combines ancient winemaking tradition and modern innovation under the careful guidance of Walter Bosio. This fine wine preserves a rare indigenous variety anciently cultivated around Verduno, protecting the inestimable value of these small local productions. The true Piedmontese soul is also expressed in its beautiful artist label decorated with a painting by the painter Pinot Gallizio, offering an unforgettable tribute to the colours of the historic hills.

We are in Verduno, on the hills of Barolo, a natural treasure nested between Alba and La Morra, a luminous amphitheatre where the King of wines "Barolo" finds some of its finest and most delicate expressions. In our vineyards we grow the great traditional grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Moscato. But we also give voice to rare and precious varieties, our pearls of Langa: Nascetta, Favorita and especially Pelaverga, of which we are the largest producers in Piedmont. In the winery we use passion and experience: our philosophy of winemaking is according to artisan tradition, without forcing. Our goal is to enhance the identity of the grape variety while indulging in our wines’ natural propensity for excellence. Read more
