Description
What kind of wine it is
Riserva Nello Baricci is a red wine of great character, a pure expression of Sangiovese grapes. This Brunello di Montalcino displays a deep ruby red colour, enriched by elegant garnet highlights. The aromatic bouquet is complex, dominated by notes of ripe cherry, Mediterranean herbs, fine tobacco and sweet spices. On the palate, it reveals a significant structure, supported by dense and silky tannins that ensure impeccable balance and a very long finish. Decanting for about an hour enhances its full aromatic expression, making it the ideal companion for game, cured meats and mature cheeses or robust dishes from Tuscan cuisine.
Where it comes from
This Brunello di Montalcino originates from the historic Montosoli hill, in the heart of the Montalcino area. The grapes are harvested exclusively from the estate's most prized plot, a true cru within a cru. This selection celebrates Baricci's work and the deep connection with Sangiovese from this specific area. The origin from a single plot gives the wine a distinct territorial identity, faithfully reflecting the soil and climate characteristics of a wine-growing area of immense prestige.
How it is produced
The production of Riserva Nello follows extremely rigorous selection criteria, choosing only the bunches with the best ageing potential. The vinification process is aimed at enhancing the finesse of the tannic structure and the extraordinary longevity typical of the area. A key stage is the long ageing, which allows the chromatic and aromatic components to integrate perfectly, defining the balance and depth of every sip. This is a reserve selection of great body, produced in limited quantities and designed for slow and excellent evolution in the cellar.

The winery was founded in 1955, when the Baricci family, originally farmers, after many years of physical and financial sacrifice, managed to purchase the small farm known as Colombaio di Montosoli. At that time, Brunello was an unknown wine, produced in very small quantities and only by a handful of passionate growers. Years passed, and in 1967 Nello Baricci, together with a few other producers, founded the "Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino," a free association of winemakers created to protect, defend, and promote their wine, whose prestige was steadily rising.
The first Brunello Baricci released on the market dates back to 1971, while the first bottle of Rosso di Montalcino was produced in 1968. Today, Nello’s grandsons, Federico and Francesco, carry on the family name—long synonymous with tradition, passion, and integrity. Their work alongside their grandfather represents a "counter‑current" professional choice for their generation, as well as the continuation of an honest and dedicated way of making wine.
The cellar is equipped with stainless‑steel tanks and Slavonian oak casks. Vinification and aging strictly follow the traditional methods that made Brunello famous worldwide. The wine ages in large casks for at least 3 years and is then refined for an additional 8 months in the bottle before being released in various European countries, as well as in the USA and Japan. The average annual production is about 13,000 bottles of Brunello and 18,000 of Rosso di Montalcino. The Baricci estate is widely recognized as a quintessential, historic Montalcino winery—one of the so‑called "small producers" who have undoubtedly contributed to the greatness of Brunello di Montalcino.
