Description
What kind of wine it is
Banfi Chianti Superiore is a Tuscan red wine characterised by a ruby hue with brilliant violet highlights. This elegant blend combines Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, offering a fresh, smooth and well-balanced sip. On the nose, it reveals intense fruity aromas of cherry and plum, enhanced by delicate hints of violet. On the palate, it displays a pleasant savouriness, supported by lively acidity and delicate tannins, leading to a persistent finish enriched with elegant notes of vanilla, cocoa and spices. It is perfect paired with flavourful first courses, roasts and grilled meats.
Where it comes from
Production takes place in the heart of Tuscany, in the picturesque hilly area of Montalcino. Here, the Banfi vineyards take root in calcareous, well-structured soils, an ideal condition to promote consistent ripening and give the wine a precise acidic backbone. The estate operates through careful agronomic management that favours organic and sustainable practices, respecting the natural cycles of the vine and the integrity of the rural landscape to obtain grapes with a strong territorial identity.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with a careful selection of the bunches. Fermentation at a controlled temperature takes place in stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about eight to ten days to ensure optimal aromatic extraction. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine matures for several months in French oak barrels. A distinctive feature of Banfi is the care given to the wood, which is seasoned and dried directly in the cellar before being used to construct the barrels. The process concludes with bottling, followed by careful bottle ageing.
History and Curiosities
Founded in Montalcino in 1978 in honour of Teodolinda Banfi, Castello Banfi stands as an undisputed excellence in Tuscan viticulture. Multiple award-winner at Vinitaly as the best winery in Italy, the estate combines passion and expertise to create a Chianti Superiore DOCG of genuine prestige. Now led by Cristina Mariani, the estate pays attention to every detail with an artisanal approach, maturing its own French oak for its barriques in-house to give this elegant red a balanced structure and exquisitely smooth tannins.
