Description

What kind of wine it is

Elio Altare presents a Barolo with a clear profile and balanced drinkability, an authentic expression of Nebbiolo grapes grown in Piedmont. This still red wine appears in the glass with a warm and enveloping style, capable of offering a tasting texture of rare finesse. The sip is supported by polished and soft tannins, leading to an elegant and floral finish, where violet stands out. A wine that combines structural rigour with absolute aromatic precision, interpreting the grape variety with artisanal mastery.

Where it comes from

The roots of this renowned red lie in Piedmont, in the prestigious communes of La Morra and Castiglione Falletto. Here, a family tradition begun in 1948 continues to enhance the nuances of a unique territory, imparting a mark of great expressive clarity. The identity of the land is evident at first glance, thanks to a bright ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, it reveals a harmonious bouquet, dominated by persistent notes of red fruit.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with a brief yet intense maceration in rotofermenters, carried out at a controlled temperature. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a careful ageing process of twenty-four months in French barrels, an essential step to achieve the ideal balance between structure and fruity character. This meticulous approach makes it perfect for accompanying game dishes, roasted meats, flavourful first courses and selections of mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

This Barolo DOCG embodies the passion of the Altare family who, since 1948, have been producing wines of extraordinary excellence between La Morra and Castiglione Falletto. Created as a genuine tribute to the noble winemaking tradition of Piedmont, this wine expresses a handcrafted heritage passed down through generations. This still red 100% Nebbiolo, awarded 91 points by Vinous, represents a truly prestigious oenological signature. Its deep connection with history offers a unique experience, celebrating the unmistakable identity of this magnificent region.

Through all these years the winery has maintained the original family run structure: Elio and Lucia’s eldest daughter Silvia has been fully involved in the winery since early 2000, while Elena, their youngest daughter, moved to Germany where she is now running a small wine import company. Elio, his wife Lucia, Silvia and the entire staff follow every single aspect of the work: in the vineyards from pruning to harvest, in the cellar from winemaking to sales, logistics, office work and marketing.

Elio, as energetic and bubbly as 40 years ago, supervises all the activities, but lately has been focusing as well on some challenging new projects, including winemaking in Cinqueterre, Liguria; restoring an old abandoned village in Castelmagno (in the mountains between Piemonte and France); cheesemaking in Castelmagno; growing medicinal herbs; making sparkling wine in the higher Langa hills with an old obscure indigenous variety called "Liseiret;" growing organic vegetables and fruits…our family will never run out of ideas and work!
