Description
What kind of wine is it
The Alsace Grand Cru Schlossberg Riesling by Albert Mann is an organic still white wine. The careful selection of Riesling grapes gives it a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of exotic fruit, citrus and white flowers, enriched by intriguing notes of ginger. On the palate, it stands out for its remarkable fresh, savoury character, offering a dense and full sip. Hints of white peach and lemon accompany the tasting towards a harmonious finish.
Where does it come from
Originating from Wettolsheim, in the Alsace Grand Cru, this wine is born from the renowned Schlossberg vineyard, considered the true quintessence of the local terroir. The vine roots delve deep to absorb minerals from the decomposing bedrock. The Albert Mann winery encourages the development of mycorrhizae to ensure the full vitality of the soil. Thanks to the application of targeted biodynamic practices, the characteristics of the place emerge in a pure and crystalline way.
How is it produced
The work in the vineyard aims to faithfully preserve the identity of the site. The Riesling grapes are vinified according to organic principles, resulting in a profile capable of supporting prolonged ageing that can exceed twenty-five years. To fully appreciate its aromatic nuances, a one-hour decanting before serving is recommended. Served at an ideal temperature between 12 and 14°C, this white expresses a lively savouriness that enhances fish dishes, shellfish and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, the Albert Mann winery enhances the region through biodynamic agriculture, adopted since 1997. This exceptional Riesling 2018 comes to life in the prestigious Grand Cru Schlossberg, in Alsace. In the heart of Alsace, our estate thrives in Wettolsheim, ideally situated in a region with an ancient wine-making tradition. It is thanks to the union of two Alsatian winegrowing families, the Mann and the Barthelmé, that the estate has perpetuated its history for several decades. Since then, men and women from different backgrounds have contributed the stones that have consolidated our estate over the years.
Since 1997, biodynamic farming has been an obvious choice for us. This culture requires a lot of work and more investment, giving the wine its own identity as well as a pure reflection of the terroir. Thanks to these biodynamic preparations, we encourage the organic life of the soil and the development of mycorrhizae present on the roots of the vine. So many factors that allow us to bring the quintessence of the terroir to the wine.
Moreover, by juggling ploughing and plant cover, we also manage to get the roots down deep to capture the minerals from the degradation of the mother rock. Read more
