Description
What kind of wine it is
Ponte dei Santi by Villa Raiano is a vibrant dry white wine, a pure expression of the Greco di Tufo grape variety. On the nose, it reveals a rich profile with notes of apricot, apple and peach, intertwined with hints of orange blossom, elderflower and white spices. On the palate, it stands out for its taut and linear structure, supported by a pronounced mineral savouriness and a saline acidity that balances the honeyed fruit notes, finishing with a long and persistent aftertaste.
Where it comes from
The grapes for this white wine come from the Ponte dei Santi hamlet, in the picturesque hilly landscape of Altavilla Irpina. The vineyards are situated at around 550 metres above sea level, where the vines are trained using the Guyot system. The unique character of the Greco di Tufo denomination is deeply rooted in its connection to the land: the roots delve into a silty-sandy soil, characterised by veins of dark clay, a geological matrix that imparts a distinctive savoury note and marked gustatory energy to the wine.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place at the beginning of October, with the manual picking of whole bunches subjected to a gentle pressing. After static decantation, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks. The winemaking process continues with a twelve-month rest on fine lees; part of the wine also matures in second or third passage French oak barrels for six months, enhancing the complexity of its flavour profile. At the table, its freshness enhances shellfish and sea bass, and it also pairs beautifully with poultry, mature cheeses and tomato-based pasta dishes.
