Description

What kind of wine it is

Collio Bianco MALcheVAda by Renato Keber is a refined still organic wine, the result of a harmonious blend of white grapes including Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla and Sauvignon. On the nose, it reveals clear aromas of sweet spices and small white flowers, which precede a dry and austere sip. On the palate, pleasant sensations of dried fruit stand out, supported by a persistent mineral finish that gives structure and an excellent ability to evolve over time.

Where it comes from

This white wine reflects the identity of Collio, a hilly area with a unique microclimate in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The vines take root on the slopes of Zegla, close to the border with Slovenia, where the producing family has worked the land for four generations. The particular composition of the soil gives the wine a pronounced territorial character, marking the tasting with a typical border sapidity that enhances its elegance and freshness.

How it is produced

The grapes are grown following strict principles of organic and sustainable agriculture, in full respect of the local ecosystem. To fully appreciate its aromatic complexity, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving the wine at a temperature between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius. This care enhances its versatility at the table, making it the ideal companion for flavourful risottos and seafood dishes, but also for white meats, vegetable soups and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The Collio Bianco Riserva MALcheVAda originates in Zegla, where the Keber family has been cultivating vines for four generations, right on the Slovenian border. This elegant organic still white wine offers aromas of sweet spices and white flowers, revealing itself as dry and austere on the palate, with rich notes of dried fruit. The essence of the terroir is reflected in the long mineral aftertaste that enhances its persistence. The 2019 vintage boasts an exclusive abstract label designed by the artist Maurizio Armellin, transforming this Friulian excellence into an unmissable work of art for every enthusiast.

From this winery
"I’ve always been drawn to secondary and tertiary perfumes, so I aim for wines that are expressive and have enough vitality to keep them young as they age. The Collio terroir’s minerality helps me achieve these goals." (Renato Keber)

The gently curving hillside called Zegla, close by the border with Slovenia, has long been home to Renato Keber and his family. Renato’s great grandfather, Franc, came from nearby Vipulzano to settle here in 1900, when this was still under Austrian rule.

Since then and for four generations, the Keber family has lived and produced its wine in Zegla, and even today, the older generations join the new ones in working in the vineyards.
