Description

What kind of wine it is

The Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio by Quintodecimo represents the pinnacle of Irpinia Bianco. This blend of white grapes combines Greco, Fiano and Falanghina to offer a broad sensory profile and extraordinary longevity. On the nose, aromas of dried apricot, hazelnut cream, almond dipped in acacia honey and Bourbon vanilla emerge. On the palate, it is sumptuous and rounded, characterised by a persistent savoury note that accompanies a rich and satisfying sip, ideal for pairing with cheese or fish-based dishes.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from vineyards located in Mirabella Eclano, between 380 and 600 metres above sea level. The wine's distinctive character is born from the variety of Campanian soils: the Greco sinks its roots into marly-sandy soils rich in clay and limestone, while the Falanghina prefers looser soils. The Fiano, on the other hand, develops in a clay area crossed by a band of volcanic lapilli, which ensures constant hydration for the vines. This territorial complexity gives the wine an unmistakable mineral drive.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting and gentle pressing, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, divided between stainless steel tanks and new French oak barrels. Ageing involves an eight-month period on the lees, six of which follow blending. A long rest in the bottle for two years completes the process, stabilising the aromatic complexity and defining the elegant structure of this wine.

History and Curiosities

Originating from Mirabella Eclano, the Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio represents the pinnacle of excellence at the Quintodecimo winery. This masterful creation by the renowned oenologist combines Greco, Fiano and Falanghina to offer an enhanced sensory experience and extraordinary longevity. Thanks to eight months of ageing on the lees and two years of resting in the cellar, the wine reaches its fullest expression. Awarded by the AIS guide, this Irpinian masterpiece delivers a sumptuous and unforgettable sip.

A great wine is the perfect blend between poetry and science, between the imponderable and the measurable. It is essentially beautiful, a work of art. It is a sort of raw material’s transfiguration that springs from must as a statue springs from stone. The man who creates it is the one who carves into this stone, already having the end result in his mind. To do this, obviously a man must have a sound scientific background. He must have an understanding of several things; knowledge of the soil, the physiology of the grape, the biochemical processes underlying the transformation of grapes into wine, and the mechanisms of sensory perception. These represent the essence of my way of making wine, this magical invention of man, which has affected my entire life. It was because of these convictions that my wife Laura and I founded Quintodecimo in 2001. (Luigi Moio) Read more
