Description

What kind of wine it is

Poggio al Tesoro Vermentino Pagus Camilla is a still white wine produced in Tuscany by Poggio al Tesoro. This expression of the Vermentino grape, originating from the Bolgheri area, perfectly reflects the coastal vocation of the region. Its fresh and elegant profile offers a clear bouquet of aromatic herbs and lively citrus notes. On the palate, it reveals a full and balanced structure, supported by a pleasant savouriness. The remarkable flavour profile gives this white wine a pronounced capacity to evolve in the bottle.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the Le Sondraie vineyard, located in Castagneto Carducci near the Fossa Camilla. At twenty-five metres above sea level with a western exposure, the rows fully benefit from the coastal Mediterranean climate. The deep soils, composed of sand, gravel and clay, allow for complete and harmonious ripening. The high planting density with Guyot training encourages excellent aromatic concentration in the bunches. This agronomic combination gives the wine its distinct savoury character, a direct and faithful expression of the Tuscan terroir.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with gentle pressing of whole, chilled bunches, essential for preserving the original aromas. This is followed by skin maceration at a controlled temperature to extract the finest components of the Vermentino. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks for twenty-five days, ensuring strict varietal precision. Maturation continues on fine lees with regular bâtonnage until the following summer. A residual sugar of 2.5 g/L and a total acidity of 5.75 g/L balance the sip, consolidating a broad and persistent texture.

History and Curiosities

The name Pagus Camilla evokes the ancient Roman rural districts, celebrating a pure Vermentino capable of capturing the vibrant soul of the Tuscan territory. Produced at Podere Le Sondraie in Castagneto Carducci, this refined white wine expresses the excellence of the Poggio al Tesoro winery. The careful ageing on fine lees releases intense aromas of aromatic herbs and citrus fruits, giving the palate a splendid savouriness. A sublime Mediterranean expression of Bolgheri DOC, whose balanced structure ensures a magnificent evolution over time.
