Description

What kind of wine it is

Icardi Barolo Serra Riserva is an organic red wine that precisely expresses the elegance of the Nebbiolo grape variety. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red colour with warm orange highlights. On the nose, it releases an ethereal and complex bouquet, where aromas of violet and red fruit jam blend with hints of liquorice, pepper and vanilla. On the palate, it boasts a solid structure, supported by dry and balanced tannins. After adequate decanting, it pairs perfectly with pork dishes, game and long-aged cheeses.

Where it comes from

This red is born in Piedmont and is a proud representative of the prestigious Barolo Riserva denomination. Production is overseen by Icardi, a winery founded in 1914 and now led by oenologist Claudio Icardi. The company operates with full respect for the land, following the principles of organic farming and environmental sustainability. The exclusive use of Nebbiolo grapes captures the authentic vocation of its place of origin, ensuring the wine has a long ageing potential.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with the crushing and destemming of the bunches. The must undergoes skin maceration at a controlled temperature for twelve to fifteen days, supported by frequent pumping over to ensure proper extraction of colour and structure. The wine then matures in large barrels for about fifty to sixty months. This slow rest in wood defines the aromatic profile and smooths the texture, preparing it perfectly to be served at an optimal temperature between eighteen and twenty degrees.

History and Curiosities

Born from the historic Piedmontese winery Icardi, founded in 1914, this exceptional organic Barolo DOCG Riserva encapsulates over a century of winemaking passion. Under the guidance of Claudio Icardi, the wine matures patiently for 50-60 months in large barrels, ensuring a cellar ageing potential of 10-15 years. This sustainable excellence, awarded 94 points by James Suckling, blends prestige and nature. Its refined ethereal bouquet, combined with dry tannins, enhances the table, pairing magnificently with game and mature cheeses.

In the early 1960s, Pierino began producing wine from his own grapes, setting out on an increasingly quality-oriented path. Today, his children Claudio and Mariagrazia run the company, following in their father's footsteps.

Our farm is located in Castiglione Tinella, in the province of Cuneo, on the border between the lower Langa and the Monferrato. Here, the hills extend as far as the eye can see, making Castiglione Tinella one of the most wine-growing municipalities in Italy, with over 90% of the land cultivated as vineyards. The rocks that descend towards the Tinella and Belbo valleys frame the carefully combed rows of vines and the patches of woodland that interrupt the geometry of the vineyards, offering a unique setting.
