Description
What kind of spirit is this
Herno Navy Strength Gin by Hernö Gin Distillery is an organic Navy Strength Gin from Sweden, distinguished by its intense 57% ABV profile. The tasting experience features a bold juniper core seamlessly interwoven with fresh citrus, coriander spice, and black pepper, all balanced by delicate spring floral notes. The palate offers a savoury texture leading to a warm, lingering, and smooth finish. This robust structure makes it an excellent choice for a Negroni or Gin Martini, or for enjoying neat at a serving temperature of 6–8 °C.
Where it comes from
Crafted in Härnösand, this spirit reflects its Nordic origins through a precise and crystalline character. Herno utilises local spring water to harmonise the high alcohol content, ensuring a clean and defined profile. The recipe combines regional ingredients, such as Swedish cranberries and lingonberries, with internationally sourced components including Hungarian juniper, Bulgarian coriander, Indian black pepper, and Madagascan vanilla. This meticulous selection yields a vivid botanical expression that firmly anchors the Gin to its northern roots.
How it is produced
Production relies on artisanal small batches using a one-shot distillation method in copper pot stills. A neutral base is infused with hand-peeled lemons and organic botanicals to capture their concentrated essential oils. Crucially, the liquid remains an unfiltered Gin, an approach that preserves its rich texture and complex aromatic structure. Brought to exactly 57% ABV, it delivers a robust mouthfeel. Containing sulphites, it is best appreciated in a small tulip glass with tonic water and a fresh citrus garnish to awaken its nuanced spice.
History and Heritage
Crafted by the Hernö Gin Distillery, this 57% ABV Navy Strength gin honours the Royal Navy tradition of testing spirits with gunpowder. Handcrafted in small batches using a one-shot method in copper pot stills, this Swedish spirit remains entirely unfiltered to preserve its vibrant essential oils. Every bottle celebrates an authentic artisanal heritage, featuring exquisite organic botanicals such as hand-peeled lemon, cassia, vanilla, and meadowsweet.

This is how the "Hernö Gin Distillery" was born in 2011, located in the city of Härnösand, in Sweden. Inside a traditional Swedish house, painted in white and red and with wooden floor, "Kierstin", the hand-made copper alembic, has been placed, affectionately renamed with this nickname.
Using certified and exclusively organic products, the Hernö distillery, the only gin distillery in Sweden, makes its distillates using the "one-shot" method, certainly complex and expensive, but which guarantees the final product a much higher quality. Read more
