Description
Style of wine
The Gewurztraminer d’Alsace Grand Cru Sporen from Dopff & Irion Chateau Riquewihr is a still white wine from Alsace. Vinified in stainless steel and aged on fine lees, it presents a brilliant gold colour that highlights the qualities of the Gewurztraminer grape variety. On the nose, it is intense, defined by aromas of candied fruit, apricot, coconut, and mirabelle plum, enriched by notes of honey and hints of jasmine. The palate reveals a decisive entry, supported by a clear freshness that accompanies the structure towards a persistent finish of caramelised fruit, making it ideal for pairing with mature cheeses and spicy dishes.
Origin
The grapes come from Riquewihr, within the renowned Alsace Grand Cru Sporen. The vineyards are situated in a natural hollow that retains solar heat, favouring the full ripening of the bunches. The rich and deep soils give the wine a solid structure and a distinct minerality. The historic Dopff & Irion winery, active since 1549, follows the natural vocations of this Alsatian terroir to achieve a taste profile highly representative of its area of origin.
Production process
After a meticulous manual harvest, the grapes undergo soft pneumatic pressing to extract the must with the utmost delicacy. Vinification takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, keeping the purity of the Gewurztraminer grape variety intact. The maturation process involves ageing for six months on fine lees, followed by a further six months in vats. This cellar processing is designed to perfectly balance freshness and expressive intensity in the glass.

At the end of the war, two of the biggest names in viticulture in Riquewihr, René Dopff and the widow Irion, joined forces to found Dopff & Irion. René Dopff was an emblematic and prestigious wine producer who, for several decades, had a huge influence on the vineyards of Alsace by putting the emphasis on quality (by reducing yields, for example) and modernising the labels. He was, above all, the first to associate a particular grape variety with a terroir and with specific soils Read more
