Description

What kind of wine it is

Sassella Nuova Regina by Ar.Pe.Pe. is a still red wine that embodies the authentic character of Alpine Nebbiolo. Classified as a Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva, it offers a deep aromatic profile with notes of morello cherry, blackberry, hibiscus and liquorice, enriched by mentholated hints and mountain herbs. On the palate, it is dynamic, where the pronounced freshness merges with finely polished tannins. Its long mineral persistence defines its essential elegance, making it a wine destined for remarkable longevity.

Where it comes from

This Nebbiolo originates in Lombardy, in the Sassella area, between Sant’Anna and Triasso, close to the Rocce Rosse. The Nuova Regina vineyard is situated at over four hundred metres above sea level on a distinctly rocky terrain, where stone prevails over soil. In this austere environment, Ar.Pe.Pe. preserves a precious heritage of old vines with ancient genetics. The meeting of mountain slopes and the complex stony matrix forges the wine’s identity, giving it that highly appreciated savoury character.

How it is produced

Production is based on artisanal practices, beginning with a completely manual harvest at the end of October. In the winery, vinification involves a long maceration of eighty-nine days in wooden vats, essential for optimal extraction and precise definition of the tannins. Ageing lasts thirty-four months, alternating between resting in wooden barrels, concrete tanks and a further period in bottle. This rigorous technical process preserves a clean flavour profile, capable of evolving beautifully over time.

History and Curiosities

At over 450 metres above sea level, where rock emerges more than soil, the ancient vines of the Nuova Regina vineyard grow. From this genetic heritage, Ar.Pe.Pe. shapes the Nebbiolo of the Alps through meticulous manual care. The 2018 vintage stands out among the longest-lived Reserves, offering the palate impeccable freshness and finely interwoven tannins. Its vibrant mineral persistence enhances international tables, revealing a magnificent essentiality that requires only the right patience to express itself at its best.

In 1984, Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, bolstered by the experience gained in his father’s and grandfather’s firm, decided to create ARPEPE. His aim was to realize the full potential of the unique Valtellina terroir with all the pride and determination required for such an ambitious goal.
To do so, Arturo started producing long-aging Nebbiolo wines according to the rules of the oldest traditions.

Today, Isabella, Emanuele and Guido continue their father’s work as the fifth generation of winemakers and growers. In just a few years, thanks to careful technological innovations and the choice of a young and passionate team, Arturo’s dream has come true: his rare wines are once again a major point of reference on the national and international wine scene.
