Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Arborina is a still red wine crafted by Elio Altare, an authentic expression of Nebbiolo grapes grown in Piedmont. This Barolo reveals a structured profile and a well-defined personality. In the glass, it displays a vivid ruby red colour, enhanced by bright garnet highlights. On the nose, clear fruity and floral notes emerge, anticipating a warm and enveloping palate. The finish stands out for its elegance, leaving refined menthol and liquorice notes on the palate.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the municipality of La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe region. The Nebbiolo vines take root in soils composed of clay-limestone marls of Tortonian origin and sandstone, geological elements that give the structure great definition. Vineyard management involves a limited yield of five tonnes per hectare, favouring ideal aromatic concentration. In this terroir, a classically styled Barolo takes shape, with a marked aptitude for ageing, recognised by international critics with excellent scores.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a maceration on the skins in rotofermenters at controlled temperature for three or four days, a fundamental process for extracting colour and tannins. This is followed by twenty-four months of ageing in barrels, an essential step in defining the structural architecture and smoothing the palate. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving, allowing the wine to express all the intensity achieved through meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar.

Elio, as energetic and bubbly as 40 years ago, supervises all the activities, but lately has been focusing as well on some challenging new projects, including winemaking in Cinqueterre, Liguria; restoring an old abandoned village in Castelmagno (in the mountains between Piemonte and France); cheesemaking in Castelmagno; growing medicinal herbs; making sparkling wine in the higher Langa hills with an old obscure indigenous variety called "Liseiret;" growing organic vegetables and fruits…our family will never run out of ideas and work!
