Description

What kind of wine it is

The Granbussia Barolo Bussia Riserva by Aldo Conterno expresses the pure character of Nebbiolo, presented in the Michet and Lampia variants. Characterised by a vibrant garnet red colour, it reveals a dry, taut and savoury taste on the palate. The aromatic profile opens with complex balsamic and undergrowth notes, enriched by earthy hints of humus, leather, tobacco and dark spices.

Where it comes from

This prestigious Barolo originates from the historic Bussia subzone of Monforte d’Alba. The grapes are selected from old vines located in the Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello vineyards, combined in a meticulous pre-fermentation blend to reflect the authentic identity of the area. The sandy and calcareous soil, composed of grey-brown layers and marl, gives the wine a pronounced savoury character.

How it is produced

Production begins in mid-October with a rigorous manual harvest. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins lasting about a month. At the end of this phase, ageing continues in large Slavonian oak barrels for at least forty months, followed by around ten years of rest in the cellar before release.

History and Curiosities

The prestigious Granbussia Barolo Riserva 2015 from Poderi Aldo Conterno represents the oenological excellence of the Langhe, produced exclusively in the finest vintages. This noble red is born from a skilful pre-fermentation blend of Nebbiolo grapes, cultivated in the old vineyards of Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello. Its structure is shaped by ageing in Slavonian oak for at least 40 months, with 10 years in the cellar. On the palate, it offers a taut and savoury sip, enriched by intoxicating balsamic and spicy notes.

Aldo Conterno founded his winery in the sixties, after the division of the legacy of his father James, one of the central figures of Italian post-war. Today the company, a sort of monumental fortress in the center of Bussia Monteforte, is undoubtedly one of the biggest names not only of the Langhe, but around the world of Italian wine. Here are some of the greatest Barolo born of history, beginning with numerous memorable versions of Granbussia, a reserve produced only in great vintages. The current style is affected to a greater extent than before, the contribution of the oak, however, preserving adequate structural strength and a careful extraction of tannin. Read more
