Areas of cultivation In the Iberian Peninsula it is known with many different synonyms. The main cultivation areas are in Portugal, where it is used for the production of Porto and Madeira wines. In Spain it is found in Galicia and Rioja. The grapes have an early maturation and produce red wines with a high alcohol content and with little acidity.
History This vine is native to France, where it bears the name of Trousseau Noir. It was mentioned for the first time in the French Jura department in 1732. According to the latest DNA analysis it comes from the Traminer.
