Similar to etymology which gives an account of the entire history of a specific word, the Valdobbiadene area is undeniably intertwined with the history of the Valdo winery. The wine estate and its territory complement each other: every wine, every sparkling wine, every bottle contains a subtle aromatic note that evokes the flavour of vineyards growing on the hilly slopes of the Treviso province. A cut of cultivated land of about 18,000 hectars flooded with light which shines on the green slopes of this territory sheltered by the Dolomites to the North and subdued by the Adriatic Sea to the South.
Located right in the heart of the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG production area, the Valdo Winery has been cultivating this unique area for generations. Over 80 years of passion for its vineyards, care for its cellars and love for wine have led Valdo to successfully embed and promote the culture of Prosecco throughout the world, and to receive prestigious accolades year after year. As a result of this experience and inspired by its enduring love for sparkling wine, Valdo writes a new page in its history telling – vintage after vintage – about unique sparkling wines designed to win over the most demanding and refined palates.
In 1926, a group of enterprising grapegrowers from the Valdobbiadene area – Italy’s leading and most prestigious vine-growing and wine-producing district - decided to join hands and establish the Società Anonima Vini Superiori, a wine-making company committed to Prosecco and Cartizze sparkling production. By perfecting the existing wine-making techniques, and creating patents to support them, the company improved the Valdobbiadene quality of sparkling wines and shortly after became a leading wine maker.
At the beginning of the 40s’ the company achieved its full potential when it was acquired by the Veronese family Bolla and became Valdo Spumanti. Sergio Bolla, father of current President Pierluigi focused on expanding sales throughout Italy and abroad by setting new production and commercial objectives and as a result introduced the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG to the rest of the world.
