Zones de culture Marmajuelo is a yellow-skinned and aromatic variety grown exclusively on the Canary Islands, principally in the Ycoden-Daute-Isora, Gran Canaria and Tacoronte-Acentejo regions.
Caractéristiques du vin obtenu à partir de ce cépage Marmajuelo is considered to be a high-quality variety and is enjoying something of a small revival. It is revered for its high acid and distinctive aromas. These include palm leaf, passionfruit and fig leaf, and are usually framed by a pleasant mineral backbone. Despite these positive attributes, Marmajuelo is mostly found in blends, because it's grown in such small quantities.
Notes The variety thrives in the sandy island soils but is grown only in very small quantities, perhaps due to the serious problems it can have with fruit set (coulure).
