Description
What kind of wine it is
Villa Raiano Taurasi is a still red wine from Campania, made from Aglianico grapes. Its aromatic profile reveals notes of ripe plums, black pepper and humus, enriched by smoky nuances and dried red flower petals. On the palate, it displays a vigorous structure, supported by a dense and silky tannic texture that gives body without excessive astringency. A pronounced savouriness accompanies the long and persistent finish, creating impeccable balance. These qualities make it an ideal partner for meat dishes and mature cheeses with intense flavours.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced in Campania, in the heart of the Taurasi area, in the province of Avellino. The Aglianico grapes come from the vineyards of Castelfranci, located at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level. The vines are trained on a vertical trellis and pruned using the Guyot method to maintain high quality yields. The clay and limestone terroir, characterised by yellow marl and rich in organic matter, profoundly shapes the wine’s sensory identity. This soil and climate environment encourages depth of flavour and innate elegance, enhancing the complexity of the aromas.
How it is produced
Harvesting, strictly by hand, takes place at the beginning of November to ensure the grapes are perfectly ripe. Fermentation in stainless steel occurs at controlled temperatures, with regular pumping over and punching down. Maceration on the skins lasts between ten and twenty days, ensuring optimal phenolic extraction. This is followed by a meticulous maturation process, including ageing in oak barrels for twelve months and a further year in stainless steel. The process concludes with a final rest of another twelve months, essential for harmonising the wine’s entire structure.
