Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Castiglione by Vietti is a red wine with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin from Piedmont, made from Nebbiolo grapes. Its full and structured profile is complemented by a natural savoury freshness and an integrated tannic texture, ideal characteristics for promising ageing potential. On the nose, it reveals notes of ripe cherry, red rose and violet, with distinct hints of blood orange, wet earth, cinchona, mint and fine spices. The palate is rich and enveloping, unfolding towards a savoury and balsamic finish that reflects the meticulous care given to steel fermentation and ageing in large barrels.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Piedmont, in Castiglione Falletto, at the heart of Barolo. The grapes are carefully selected from vineyards spread across various villages in the area, managed to enhance the unique qualities of each individual plot. The calcareous-clay soils impart a rigorous character to the Nebbiolo, ensuring a solid tannic structure and lively freshness. The vines, trained using the Guyot system, range in age from ten to forty-five years: an agronomic choice that encourages remarkable aromatic concentration and a defined stylistic precision in the glass.
How it is produced
Production begins with a strictly manual harvest. In the winery, after gentle pressing, the grapes ferment in steel tanks using the submerged cap maceration method. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood to provide greater harmony. The individual crus are vinified and aged separately to respect the identity of the different terroirs, before being combined in a careful final blend. Maturation lasts for around thirty months in large barrels and partially in barriques, an essential step to soften the tannins and consolidate the wine’s aromatic persistence.
History and Curiosities
