Description
What type of wine it is
Isola Bianca by Teruzzi is a Tuscan still white wine with a Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (DOCG), vinified in steel, and is a dry and balanced expression of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano grape variety. In the glass, it offers an intense aromatic profile, in which notes of ripe pineapple, apple and citrus fruits are interwoven with delicate floral hints of rose and acacia. On the palate, the drinking experience is characterised by a fresh and firm structure, which accompanies the sip towards a persistent finish, enhanced by the characteristic almond aftertaste.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in the heart of Tuscany, among the hills of San Gimignano in the province of Siena. The grapes grow on clay and sandy soils, ideal for giving the sip a clear flavour texture and a distinct mineral imprint. The continental climate, mitigated by Mediterranean influences, ensures consistent ripening of the bunches. The history of the grape variety dates back to the 13th century; confirming its prestige, Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) in Italy dedicated to a white wine, subsequently also recognised as a Guaranteed (DOCG) designation.
How it is produced
The harvest of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano takes place between September and October. The vinification begins with skin maceration in the press, followed by soft pressing. Fermentation takes place with selected yeasts inside stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, a fundamental technique for preserving aromatic precision. The wine then rests for a few months in steel and completes its final ageing in the cellar. In the glass, it presents a bright straw yellow colour with greenish highlights, offering a fresh and elegant drinking experience.
History and curiosities
Born from a centuries-old indigenous grape variety renowned since the 13th century, Vernaccia derives its name from the Latin term “vernaculus”, confirming its proud local soul. This wine boasts absolute prestige: it was, in fact, the first Italian white to achieve DOC status in 1966 and DOCG in 1993. Since 1974, Teruzzi has honoured this extraordinary heritage. Its Isola Bianca label celebrates the authentic tradition of San Gimignano, offering a Tuscan excellence that encapsulates the pure identity of the territory in every glass.
