Description

What kind of wine it is

The Pinot Bianco Tradition from Cantina Terlano is a still white wine made from Pinot Bianco grapes, a true expression of the Alto Adige region. It stands out for its elegant profile, characterised by a pronounced mineral and savoury note. On the nose, it develops a clear bouquet where notes of pear and fresh apple intertwine with hints of gooseberry and lime, complemented by nuances of chamomile and lemongrass. On the palate, it is fruity, maintaining a captivating balance that leads to a long and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

The vines take root in Alto Adige, on steep slopes facing south-west between 350 and 900 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by a cool mountain climate, where alpine air creates significant temperature variations and sunny summers encourage the slow concentration of aromas, preserving a lively acidity. The plants grow on volcanic and porphyritic soils, whose mineral richness is reflected in the glass, giving the wine a taut flavour profile and a distinctive final saline sensation.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a careful manual harvest, followed by gentle pressing of the bunches. The must is clarified by natural sedimentation, then undergoes a slow fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, an ideal choice to preserve the primary aromas of the variety. The process concludes with ageing on fine lees for a period of six or seven months, always in steel containers. This prolonged contact enriches the body of the wine, resulting in a sip of extreme precision and structural balance.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano is an institution in Alto Adige that enhances the porphyry soils through this exceptional pure Pinot Bianco. Under the guidance of oenologist Rudi Kofler, the estate combines sustainable practices with a rigorous manual harvest. Slow fermentation and subsequent ageing on fine lees for six to seven months in steel tanks result in a wine of extraordinary longevity. This meticulous attention translates into a mineral and savoury sip, perfectly balanced by elegant aromas of pear and quince, with notes of chamomile that delight the palate.
