Description
What kind of wine it is
Lampante is an organic red wine by Tenuta Castelbuono, deeply rooted in the Umbrian region. This blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot belongs to the Montefalco Rosso Riserva denomination, standing out for its vigorous character. Visually, it displays a ruby colour enriched with garnet highlights. The bouquet reveals notes of woodland violet and candied cherry, accompanied by sweet spices, balsamic hints and a mineral nuance of graphite. On the palate, it is broad and structured, supported by a mature and balanced tannic texture that ensures remarkable persistence of flavour.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from estate-owned vineyards located in Bevagna, selected within the “Le Fonti” cru. The vines grow on silty-clay soils which, thanks to their ability to withstand summer drought, give the wine a balanced power and perfectly integrated tannins. The estate adopts a sustainable approach, following the principles of certified organic farming. The spur-pruned cordon training system enhances the excellent agronomic potential of the area, offering an authentic and faithful expression of Umbria.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest. The process continues with a cold pre-maceration and subsequent fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Prolonged maceration allows for optimal extraction of structure. Ageing takes place for eighteen months in oak barrels, enriching the aromatic profile, and is followed by a further period of rest before release. It pairs perfectly with red meats and cheeses, expressing its qualities best when served after decanting at a temperature of 18°C.
History and Curiosities
The Lampante Montefalco Rosso DOC Riserva from Tenute Lunelli is produced from selected grapes of the “Le Fonti” cru in Bevagna, in the heart of Umbria. This prestigious organic red wine combines the elegance of Sangiovese with the intensity of Cabernet and Merlot, all harvested strictly by hand. Thanks to a slow maturation of 18 months in large barrels and tonneaux, followed by a year of ageing in the bottle, the wine develops an ageing potential of up to ten years, fully expressing the proud character of a label celebrated by international critics.

There was a need, though, for a new winery and the Lunelli family, thanks to their firm, long-held friendship with Arnaldo Pomodoro, one of the great contemporary artists, suggested that it should be he who designed it. The Maestro enthusiastically accepted and, after an initial survey of the area, he already had a project in mind.
The "Carapace" – as Pomodoro decided to call his winery – required no less than six years’ building work and it was inaugurated and opened to the public – for visits and tastings – in June 2012. It is a unique work of art that calls into question the boundaries between sculpture and architecture. It is the first sculpture in the world in which people can live and work, a unique work in which art and nature, sculpture and wine intermingle, underlining the exceptional nature of both the containing structure and of its contents. It offers itself to one’s gaze as a large copper-covered dome, engraved with fissures that remind one of the furrows in the earth that surrounds it. A sculpted element in the form of a red dart plunging into the soil highlights the work’s place in the landscape. Entering the "Carapace" means penetrating into one of Pomodoro’s sculptures, and one is aware right away of his artistic alphabet, which is immediately recognizable in the internal vault. This is a distinctive, special winery for distinctive, special wines. Read more
