Description
What kind of wine it is
Ambat by Sella & Mosca is a still white wine that expresses the essence of Vermentino di Sardegna. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of white flowers and exotic fruit, enriched by elegant hints of almond and anise. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet lively, combining a solid structure with an easy-drinking character. The sip culminates in a crisp and savoury finish, with distinct marine influences. It pairs perfectly with seafood risottos and fresh fish, enhancing Mediterranean cuisine at its best.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in Alghero, among the vineyards of the Sella & Mosca estate. The vines sink their roots into calcareous-clay soils facing north-west, immersed in the typical maritime Mediterranean climate. The proximity to the coast is fundamental: constant breezes and mistral winds bring a precious saltiness to the grapes, giving the wine a pronounced mineral character. Low-yield viticulture ensures well-defined aromas and a strong sense of place.
How it is produced
The process begins with a rigorous manual harvest, followed by gentle pressing and static cold settling. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 18°C to preserve the purity of the Vermentino. A small portion matures briefly in lightly toasted French barrels, adding depth without overshadowing the original freshness. A short final rest consolidates the balance, resulting in great consistency and a clean taste profile.
History and Curiosities
Ambat originates in Alghero, in vineyards 28 and 30 of the historic Sella & Mosca winery, founded in 1899. This excellent Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, enhanced by a label created in collaboration with Antonio Marras, expresses the most authentic soul of the region. The vines grow on calcareous-clay soils facing north-west, lashed by intense maestrale winds that give the grapes a vibrant saline note. Rigorous care and partial ageing in French barriques enhance its coastal elegance, giving the wine an extraordinarily maritime charm.
